Te Awamutu Fire Safety Day.
From the Waikato Times. 18 October 2004 By ANDREW MCALLEY
Te Awamutu area residents were invited to a joint demonstration held in the town.
Firefighters, ambulance crews, civil defence and police were all on hand to deliver safety messages and show what each service could do.
Paula Neshausen, of the Te Awamutu fire brigade, said the open day was an opportunity for emergency services staff to meet each other and at the same time get safety messages out to the public.
"The day helps us say we would rather we didn't have to attend emergencies but, if we have to, this is what we are trained for and this is what we can do," she said.
Emergency services staff put on demonstrations of airbags and cutting equipment.
The Westpac Air Ambulance helicopter was flown over from Waikato Hospital for the day
