Te Awamutu Kayakers

Home Page

As a group of people we are all interested in kayaking.

In particular we like whitewater kayaking.

Whitewater kayaking is a fun and exciting sport or pasttime. We get to see places in New Zealand rarely seen by most people as rivers are usually hard to follow. There are different grades at which we kayak and generally the grade starts at 1 and go up to 5 sometimes 6.

Most people in our group paddle grades 2 and 3 with some venturing into grade 4 water.

Age does not limit the kayaker. Our club has a member who has just turned 65. Children at intermediate age are at a good age to start paddling.

The best way to start whitewater paddling is to join a club. Our local club is called the Hamilton Canoe Club

The web address is http://www.campnkayak.co.nz/cowtown.php

In Te Awamutu and at the Te Rapa pools the Hamilton canoe club members attend sessions with their kayaks and practice general paddling and the all important roll as well as just enjoying each others company and talking about plans for future trips.

You can make contact with us by following the "Club" link or by the Home page "Contact" link.
