Club Champs 5-6

29th March 2009

The morning’s fog kept the sailors in suspense till the afternoon when a zephyr of a breeze developed from the northeast. It swung through to the southwest for the final race of the day and the series. Ultimately planing conditions at times made the day most enjoyable and gave sailors a chance to show their ability.
Aleisha Ferguson made it another two wins in the Junior fleet after some guidance to ensure that the marks were rounded on the right side. Well done for the first season in an Optimist!
Micah Wilkinson took out the Intermediate fleet in his Starling; four wins to count kept him narrowly ahead of Matthew Ward (also in a Starling).
Lasers dominated the Senior centreboard fleet at the head of the results table. Arthur Ferguson was never too far from the front of the fleet throughout the competition, a 5th and a 3rd took him through to win the championship for 2008/9.
A highlight of the day was to see Thomas jump into a Laser and for most of the first race of the day was solidly in second place. The relentless Arthur Giffney managed to sneak past just before the finish line.
Bojangles with Trevor Crosbie at the helm was just a little bit too good for Shane Buxton (first series in the Joker Sugar Shack) and to Mick Allison in his new acquisition a Quintet 6. The four boats competing today sailed as if tethered by an elastic band, somewhat nerve racking for the leaders!
Thanks to OD Tom, he had the day set to go, basking in the sunshine having a BBQ lunch before he whistled up the wind was all a part of the plan.

To next weekend.
