Working Bee
25th August 2007
New tie up points for the trailer yachts have been installed on the wharf, a VHF radio fitted down stairs in the clubhouse to improve communication for safety, outside and inside of the clubhouse washed along with a major spring clean inside, windows and doors refitted and painted, the BBQs cleaned in places they didn't know they had and the two patrol boats were cleaned bring them up like new. Thanks to all who helped, Owen, Danny, Gordon, Alex, Ross, Nigel, Bob, Tom, Philip, Pete, Peter, Murray, John, Evan, Matt, Jamie, Micah, Shirley, Linda, Claire: I hope I have you all! There will be a bit of a follow up later to finish the painting of the windows and to attack the bargeboards and spouting.
Ten people are booked in for the coaching next Saturday. Please be there with you boat down at the shore ready to rig by 9.00am. Christine will give you a few tips on setup too. For those people staying over on Saturday night you'll be treated to an early rising on Sunday morning, the Ngati Apakura tribe is placing a "healing stone" in the lake (sounds like to do with their ancestors buried / slayed in the lake in years gone by). People will start arriving at 5.00am, the ceremony starts at 6.00am, with the "healing stone" taken out in the lake aboard one of the club's patrol boats (we are all welcome to come and watch). A breakfast for the tribe's members follows back in the clubhouse, and the proceedings will be all wrapped up by 9.00am (that might get me off breakfast duties?).
Sailing for the summer season starts with a briefing at 10.30am. We'll have short sharp fun races to kick the season off.
