GENERAL SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

 
1.  VENUE                      NGAROTO SAILING CLUB, LAKE NGAROTO, TE AWAMUTU
 
2.  RACING PROGRAMME
               For general club events.  Briefing is typically at 10.30 am.  (Check Club program or NOR for details)
3.  CONTROL     
All races shall be under the control and management of the race committee.  Race Officers have full power for selection of courses, postponement, cancellation, abandonment and general recall.
4.  RACING RULES
(a)    The 2005-2008 ISAF and the current YNZ prescriptions to these rules except as altered by these sailing.
(b)   The YNZ Safety Regulations Part 1.
            (c)  As defined in the rules of the respective classes.
5.  COURSES
Courses for each race will be displayed at the headquarters on the course notification board and explained at briefing Sailors are not to sail between the cardinal marks on the eastern side of the lake and the adjacent shore and western side of the lake and the adjacent shore.
6.   STARTING AND FINISHING LINES
The Starting Line shall be on a straight line between the prescribed mark and the staff on the committee boat.  The Finishing Line shall be between the two poles in the lake opposite the Club House.  There may be variations of this, they will be explained at briefing and described on the course board.
7.  STARTING PROCEDURE
               Races will be started in accordance with RRS rule 26.  The order of   starting and Fleet flags will be notified at briefing.

8.  RECALLS
Individual Recall shall be signified by one sound signal and displaying Code Flag X, in accordance with Rule 29.2.
General Recalls shall be signified by two sound signals and the displaying of the First Substitute Flag.  The recalled fleet will then start after the other scheduled fleets.
9.  SHORTENED COURSE
Should it be necessary, a course may be shortened by two sound signals and displaying Code Flag S as the leading boat of the Fleet approaches a mark.  Boats will then sail directly to the Finish Line.
10.  CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
If necessary an announcement will be made by the Race Officer at Briefing and posted on the Official Notice board.
11.  TIME LIMIT
The time limit shall be 2 hours.  One yacht finishing within the limit makes the race valid for all other yachts in that class/fleet, except those finishing greater than 30 minutes after the first yacht.  Any such yacht will be awarded a DNF or allocated a finishing time by the O D as he may see fit.  (This may be changed at briefing).
12.  PENALTIES
               Touching marks, 360-degree turn in accordance with rule 31.2.
            Breaking Rules of Part 2 rule 44.1 applies i.e. a 720-degree turn.
13.  PROTESTS
               Shall be lodged in writing to the Race O D within 20 minutes of the last boat in the Class/Fleet finishing. 
14. LIABILITY and SAFETY
Competitor’s attention is drawn to Fundamental rules and the YNZ Safety Rule Part 1.  The Club’s Health and Safety policy is displayed at the Clubhouse and on the web site.
15.  METHOD OF DECIDING CONTEST
The number of races scheduled for each series and number of drops are indicated in the club’s program.  There may be some variation for the Sprint Race and Mark Foy series (dependent on the days sailing conditions). Yachts finishing times shall be adjusted by the NZTYA handicaps posted on the official notice board (for Paterangi, Mangapiko and Pokeru series).  The Weymouth Yard Stick may be applied to centreboard and multi-hull yachts.  The low point scoring system A 2 will apply. 
16.  TROPHIES
Trophies are presented for the senior Paterangi, Mangapiko, Pokeru and Club Champs series.  The Top Gun is awarded to the skipper with the most Guns in the above Club series.  Plates are awarded for the 6-Hour race.
