Curriculum

Pekerau School's major curriculum focus is in Literacy and Numeracy.  Professional Development for teachers usually centres around developing practices in Literacy genres and a commitment to improving the teaching of Numeracy strategies to students.  Teachers have taken part in the Ministry of Education's Literacy Leadership programme and NUMPA project which have both impacted on the way teachers plan, teach and assess in Maths.

We have completed a 3 year I.C.T.  inquiry learning focused contract  with other Te Awamutu schools. Rosetown Cluster

Throughout the school there is a focus on developing the whole child with a commitment to the arts curriculum.  A normal year at Pekerau School features regular assemblies hosted by each class, (developing confidence in public speaking and performance), choir groups, guitar groups, speeches and a whole school cultural performance (which may include singing, dancing, acting or everything at once.)

While focusing on making the curriculum interesting for students,  teachers are very aware of the responsibility for reporting to parents.  Pekerau School has introduced a Yearbook.  The Yearbook contains samples of the children's work and on-going criteria based assessments.  These books are sent home each term for parents to view their child's progress and achievements and to help set the child's following term's learning goals/ the Yearbook is used during parent interviews and also becomes a final end of year report as well as a treasure to keep.
