Celebrating 100 years 1907-2007
Location of the School
Pokuru is a thriving rural community situated 10kms south west of Te Awamutu. Dairy farming is the predominant industry, with some small horticulture enterprises.
Demography
We cater for Year 0 to Year 6 students. The majority of students travel to and from school by bus. The children are from farming families in the Pokuru, Te Kawa and Te Mawhai areas and a number of children live in Te Awamutu and commute daily. The Intermediate and College school buses call at the gate.

Special Needs and Abilities Programme
There is a real commitment to this area on the part of the Board. An experienced teacher works with small groups of children three mornings a week, with the Board funding much of this.
Buildings and Grounds
The school is set in park like grounds on the lower slops of Mt Kakepuku. It consists of six classrooms; a library and IT suite (2006) and purpose-built sports shed (1998).
The administration area (1994-95) includes the school office, principal’s office, resource room, meeting room, staffroom, two toilets, a shower and storage.
A swimming pool, adventure playground, two sports fields and community hall are all onsite.
Equipment and Resources
There are excellent reading resources in classrooms and the library. Generous curriculum budgets mean that each area is well resourced with up to date support material.
Our goal is to ensure our students are IT literate and confident.
The Community
The community plays a large role in the life of the school, supporting the school in its academic, cultural, social, sporting and agricultural activities.
The BOT at Pokuru School are a particularly hard-working and innovative team that supports their staff. They are constantly active on projects that are having a very positive impact on children’s learning.
