Celebrating 100 years 1907-2010
Cross Country.
Every year we do cross country. We make a course and then we practice on it. Our teachers time us and we record our times in our homework books. We write our goals for the Cross Country. Then on the day we race. The people who come first, second and third get a certificate and they get to go to the Inter-school competition to represent Pokuru School.

Gym.
Every year we do gymnastics. We do it in the hall. We get teachers to teach us like Mrs. N. Then on the day we do routines for an instructor and whoever passes get a badge. Anyone who is 7,8,9 and up goes to the Inter school. This year two of our senior students sat and passed their silver badges, we are very proud of them.

Athletics.
Every year we have Athletics. We do Hurtles, Longjump, Sprinting, Highjump and Ball throw. Our Athletics day is just like a sports day. We like doing it and we train for a couple of weeks before the day learning important skills so we are well prepared. Teachers are at every station. When we hear the bell that means we move to another station. We are all looking forward to Athletics day.

Agricultural Day
On the 8th October my calf, Barbie and I went to Pokuru School’s Agricultural Day and it was exciting.
It started early. I got up at 6.30 a.m. to shampoo my calf and make it look as pretty as me. Barbie and I were ready at seven thirty. My dad pushed Barbie into the trailer. I went home and had brekkie, then off we went to Pokuru School!!
We both arrived safe and excited. I walked my calf over to the gate so I could tie her up. The first event was in ten minutes time. I pushed Barbie near the ring. Ten minutes flew by and it was time for the first event – leading. I was ready to go. I started well. I turned the first corner and I was up to the stop bit. 1,2,3, Yes!! She went beautiful!!! Now the 360 turn. No!! She stopped. I was talking to Barbie. Then she walked to the finish, but no ribbons.
After leading I was still happy because I thought Barbie did awesome. Rearing was easy – I just stood with Barbie. Then the judge looked at Barbie. He said she was a good calf. Then the ribbons were handed out and guess what? Barbie and I got fourth.
In the next event, dairy/type I was against hard competition. I went out to do my best and the calf judge said my calf had a nice barrel and I got called out to the middle. They gave me a red ribbon and red is for first. Yah! Now I had to go into the champion ring. I walked in and got called into the middle and then it started pouring. James and I and our calves were soaked. James got champion for type and I got reserve champion. I was so happy!!
I guess all that hard work paid off and it was an awesome last year.
