Welcome to the Te Awamutu SPCA

Our Mission:
  • To prevent suffering and cruelty to animals
  • To provide a safe-haven for animals in need of treatment and TLC
  • To educate the public about the needs of their pets
  • To rehome animals to safe and loving forever families

The Te Awamutu SPCA is a not-for profit community organisation. We receive no government funding or any funding from our national body. We rely solely on the generosity of the public to keep our centre up and running. To donate to the Te Awamutu SPCA please see our donations page and find out how you can help the animals. We are also always in need of new and passionate volunteers to help us look after the animals and keep them happy and healthy during their time with us. If you think volunteering is for you then please see our volunteer’s page.

The Te Awamutu SPCA is a ‘saving lives’ shelter which means we rehome every animal that comes through our doors unless they are deemed too aggressive to be rehomed or so ill or badly injured we cannot save them. We do have limited treatment facilities for housing sick animals while on medication and all these animals are rehomed once they have been rehabilitated. Due to this we are always in need of foster parents to help us house some of these ill or injured animals and if you are interested in helping in this way please see our foster page.

Animal Welfare Inspector:

The Te Awamutu SPCA now has a warranted Animal Welfare Inspector on staff.  We are hoping this will make a postive impact on animal welfare in our community.  If you have any animal welfare concerns please see our contact page and get in touch with us.

Cupcake Day:

The Te Awamutu SPCA cupcake day stall will be outside Viands Bakery, 246 Alexandra Street, Te Awamutu.  Make sure you get down there and support us by buying a cupcake or some of our cool cupcake day merchandise!

June 2011
Adopt a Kennel/Cage:

Our latest fundraising initiative is to adopt a Kennel/Cage. Each one of our kennels and cages houses a dog or a cat. We have 12 dog kennels and 30 cat cages. We are asking for sponsors of these via monthly payment to cover all costs incurred to care for that animal while waiting for its forever home. By sponsoring a kennel or cage you will receive a monthly newsletter and photo telling you about the animal currently in your sponsored spot and how they are doing, your kennel or cage will have a plaque with your name or company name to acknowledge your contribution as a sponsor and any advertising, either on our website, facebook or newspaper, will have your name or company name attached to the photo of the animal currently in your sponsored kennel or cage. For more information please give us a call on 078715222.

One of the Family:

This month we have had the pleasure of hosting the education team from national office and support them while they go through some of our local schools to teach children the importance of treating animals like ‘one of the family’. Norm Hewitt and Shelley Ryan have gone to two schools in Te Awamutu to present their talk which is very educational and touches on really relevant issues of the links between animal welfare and domestic abuse in New Zealand.

Desexing Caravan:

We had the desexing caravan here at the Te Awamutu SPCA and we were fully booked which means we desexed over 250 animals from around the community for free! This is a national office initiative and hopefully this will make a huge positive impact on the number of unwanted animals around our area. We are truly grateful to national office for choosing us this year as a candidate for this awesome project. We would also like to thank Select Securities for monitoring the caravan while it was here and keeping it safe.
