Kids Camp Update – September 2006 (2 months to go!)

Hi Kids,

News to date:

I am able to confirm that there is going to be a grading at the Camp!

That’s right, one of ITFNZ’s regional examiners (Or possibly a special guest, rumour has it, watch this space!) will be at the camp to conduct the grading.

Those students that want to register and grade at the camp remember:

  • You must be eligible to grade as per normal grading requirements for your rank. Remember this includes any credits you may need, training sessions required, etc
  • You must have your instructors written permission to grade at the camp. Please have your instructor email me their consent at midlands@itfnz.co.nz
  • And you must register your intent to grade at the camp beforehand so we can plan ahead, numbers wise. Email me here at midlands@itfnz.co.nz to register for the grading.

Remember, the grading at the camp will be conducted in the exact same manner as a normal regional grading.

Kids Camp Update – May 2006 (6 months to go!)

Hi Kids,

Thanks to the parents that have emailed me already wanting entry forms for the camp, it’s great to see such a good response so soon in the year.

Entry forms for the camp will be available on this site from around the 17th September, give or take a few days. I will be more specific on the exact date later on in the year. My apologies to those parents wanting to register their children now, but I can’t take entries for the camp early. But kids, by all means please keep emailing and letting me know who you are and what you would like to see and do at the camp; suggestions are always welcome.

I also encourage you to write to Mr Banicevich who is the editor of Taekwon-Do talk and have your questions, suggestions, or anything else published there.

Questions I have been asked so far include:

Q         Can I come to the camp for just one of the days?

A         Yes you can, no problem as you will not be taking up a bed space and we will just squeeze you into the training sessions and meals etc (providing we only have to squeeze in a few, otherwise we might have to charge).

Q         What is the cell phone coverage at the camp like?

A         I get asked this question every year, and every year I give the same answer. Leave your cell phone at home; coverage at the camp is lousy, especially for Vodafone. You won’t need it, and your fingers could probably do with a break anyway.

Q         What will we be eating?

A         I get asked this question every year as well. Let me just say that no one has had to scrounge for food at the camp yet!

Q         Will there be more brussel-sprouts to eat?

A         Only if someone specifically wants them. Personally I have nothing against brussel-sprouts apart from the smell, texture, taste, and sight of them. Why you would ask this question, I have no idea…

Q         What do I have to do to win the baking contest this year?

A         Goodness me, if you are already wanting to get a winning plan together this early then I would say you are 90% of the way there! My advice is to create something really visually amazing with moving parts! Bear in mind though that the judges last year were more impressed with the effort undertaken than the result achieved and it was a very difficult decision. Make sure it is mostly all your own work though!

Q         Who will be the guest instructors this year?

A         Not sure yet, but rest assured, they will once again put together more energy and fun filled sessions.

Right, that’s all for now. I will update the site when I have more questions or information. If you have a question, please email me at this address. midlands@itfnz.co.nz

---------------------------------------------------

Hi Kids,

Welcome to the home page for the 4th National Juniors Camp, 2006.

As you can see the camp is all set to go and contrary to rumour, is again at Aongatete Lodge in the Bay of Plenty. We had considered moving the camp this year, but have decided that the venue is so great and so well suited to the juniors’ camp that we will stay there as long as we can.

This means though that places will once again be limited, so you will need to be in quick if you want to come this year. Every year someone misses out.

Also this year the rules are slightly different. If you are aged 14 yrs or younger at the date of the camp (17th – 19th November), and a registered student, then you can come. While there is no younger age limit, children under 8 should come with an adult that knows them well unless they are very independent. We will leave it up to you as their parent to decide this.

However, we have changed one thing this year due to demand. We will accept black belt students that want to come to the camp, provided they fall into the age restrictions above.

Once again we will have guest instructors, baking contests, and select a winning poster to use as the theme for the camp. As you can see from our Logo, things this year are going to be tougher. No simple riddles or puzzles. No easy pickings for those that have been to camp before. Oh no, we have a whole new format!

We are also making the camp free to any student attending from the Sth Island. We can arrange pickups etc if you can get here. This is just a small way of recognising the extra effort involved in getting to the camp. As for everyone else the price is still the same, $20, with adults free!

To all the Mums and Dads that are thinking of coming, a big thank you in advance. Please remember we only have room for about 15 of you, unless you can bring a tent etc. So while it’s fantastic to have the support, please only one adult per family!

Finally, we have been given permission to conduct a Gup grading at the camp which we are really excited about. Last year a lot of kids couldn’t make the camp as it clashed with the grading round. Well, not this year! If you would like to attend the camp and want to grade there as well, and you have your Instructors permission to grade, then you will need to email me at this address midlands@itfnz.org.nz to register your interest. Providing we can get enough students, we will run the grading. Have a think about it, what a cool place to have a grading with all your new friends!
